Tax drop feeding state woes

Michael J. Widmer, president of the Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation, said he believes state unemployment will probably top out in the first or second quarter next year, and that the national economy will probably hit bottom in the third or fourth quarter of 2009. "Massachusetts will trail, as it regularly does following a recession, and unemployment always trails a recession," Widmer told a Chamber of Commerce breakfast Wednesday.
