The following list provides examples of the kinds of detailed Massachusetts
economic information that is available from MTF by request via telephone,
e-mail
or in writing. While first priority must be given to requests from our
members, public officials and the media, we are pleased to respond to other
queries as time permits.
Comprehensive state and national economic forecasts
Wage rates
- Total non-farm wage rate
- Average annual wage rates for each major industry
- Average hourly wage rates for manufacturing
Inflation rates
- Consumer price index, Boston
- National consumer price indices by expenditure category, including
housing, food and beverages, apparel, medical care, transportation, entertainment
among others
- National producer price index for industrial commodities, including
food, fuels, chemicals, rubbers and plastics, lumber, minerals among others
Interest rates (all national)
- Private short-term rates including discount rate (FRB NY), federal
funds, commercial paper rates (one, three, and six month), bank CDs (three
and six months) and prime rate
- Private long-term rates
- Treasury issues, including bills (three and six month), notes (one,
three, five and seven year) and bonds (ten and thirty year)
Employment
- Non-farm employment for each major industry: mining, construction,
durable manufacturing, nondurable manufacturing, transportation/public
utilities, wholesale, retail, FIRE, services and government
- Non-farm employment for approximately 90 sub-industries
Housing and construction data
- Residential multi-family and single family construction: number of
housing starts, number and dollar value of housing permits, and average
number of months for construction
- Non-residential construction: dollar value of housing permits for industrial,
